Hammond man receives eight-year prison sentence for drug distribution

Fernando Porras Jr., a 64-year-old resident of Hammond, Indiana, has been sentenced to 96 months in prison and four years of supervised release after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine and cocaine. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney M. Scott Proctor.

Court documents indicate that on January 22, 2024, Porras Jr. sold methamphetamine and cocaine at a gas station in Gary, Indiana. He also conducted additional sales of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine on multiple occasions in Dolton, Illinois, and Gary between May 2023 and March 2024. Porras Jr. had previously been convicted for dealing LSD.

The investigation was carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Lake County Combined Task Force – Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program, with support from the DEA’s North Central Laboratory. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Toth prosecuted the case.
