The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana announced on May 21 that its Clerk’s Offices will be on stand-by during a district-wide event scheduled for June 4, 2026. Filings and payments will still be accepted, but special procedures will be in place to accommodate the event.

This update is important for individuals who need to file pleadings or make payments with the court during this time. The announcement provides detailed instructions to ensure that filings are processed without delay and payments are handled securely.

According to the court, pleadings may be placed in a drop-box for retrieval by Clerk’s Office employees. “All pleadings received during business hours on Thursday, June 4 will be file-marked the same day,” the statement said.

For payments, cash will not be accepted by the Clerk’s Office. Acceptable forms of payment via drop-box include personal checks, money orders, or cashier’s checks made payable to ‘Clerk, U.S. District Court.’ Individuals are instructed to write their name and address on an envelope and place it with their payment inside the lobby’s drop box. Receipts will then be mailed out. The announcement also stresses: “PLEASE DO NOT PLACE CASH IN THE DROP BOX OR MAIL.” Another option is to mail filings or acceptable forms of payment directly to one of three listed division addresses in Fort Wayne, Hammond, or South Bend.

These temporary measures aim to maintain access while ensuring security and efficiency during court operations affected by the district-wide event.
