Deputies investigate fatal crash on Interstate 69 in Vanderburgh County

Deputies with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash near the 16-mile marker of Interstate 69 just north of Boonville-New Harmony Road on June 3. The incident occurred at approximately 5:03 a.m. and involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle, both traveling northbound.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and remained at the scene, fully cooperating with investigators. In accordance with Indiana law regarding fatal crashes, that driver submitted to a chemical blood test, authorities said. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

Sheriff’s Office detectives and deputies trained in crash reconstruction responded to assist with investigating the incident. The investigation also involved assistance from Indiana State Police and Vanderburgh County Fire Department.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office after next-of-kin notifications have been completed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
