Blue Grass Stockyards reported on April 18 the results of its weekly livestock auction held in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The report includes data on feeder cattle, slaughter cattle, and replacement cattle for the week ending April 18, with a total of 210 head sold.
The information provides insight into market trends and pricing for local producers and buyers. This is important as it helps inform decisions related to buying and selling livestock within the region.
According to the final weighted average report, feeder steers were steady to $5.00 higher compared to the previous Saturday’s sale. Feeder heifers remained steady, while slaughter cows were steady to $3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls showed no significant change in price. There was good demand noted for both feeder and slaughter classes at this auction.
The breakdown of receipts shows that out of the total head sold, about 70% were feeder cattle (including steers, heifers, bulls, and dairy heifers), while slaughter cattle made up approximately 21%, and replacement cattle accounted for around 9%. Notably, beef baby calves fetched between $1,100 and $1,375 per head during this session.
Further details indicate that prices varied across weight classes for steers and heifers as well as bulls. For example, medium and large frame steers weighing around 240 pounds averaged $640 per hundredweight (cwt), while similar frame heifers weighing about 215 pounds averaged $565 per cwt.
Explanatory notes provided clarify reporting guidelines: prices are reported on an FOB basis unless otherwise stated; pregnancy stages are defined numerically; age is given in years; some sales may not be included if they fall outside reporting criteria.
