Attorney General Todd Rokita announced on Apr. 8 that his office will monitor fuel prices across Indiana to prevent price gouging during the temporary suspension of the state’s gas tax.
The monitoring comes as a response to the recent emergency measure suspending Indiana’s gas tax for 30 days, aiming to ensure that consumers receive intended relief at the pump.
Rokita said, “With the suspension of Indiana’s gas tax for the next 30 days, my office will closely monitor fuel prices to guard against any potential price gouging.” He continued, “Hoosiers deserve the full relief intended by this emergency measure and we will use every tool allowed by the General Assembly to ensure that the removal of the tax translates into lower prices at the pump — and that consumers are not taken advantage of during this time.”
He also encouraged consumers who suspect a gas station is still charging tax during this period to file a complaint with his office. “If a consumer suspects that a gas station in Indiana is still charging tax during the suspension, they should file a consumer complaint with our office,” Rokita said.
The attorney general’s statement highlights ongoing efforts by state officials to protect residents from unfair pricing practices and ensure transparency as legislative measures take effect.
