Students from Arsenal Technical High School’s band program earned top honors at the Indiana State School Music Association Organizational Contest, held at Perry Meridian High School, according to an announcement on April 20. Both the intermediate and advanced bands received Gold ratings from all judges, including in the sight-reading category where students perform unfamiliar music.
The advanced band achieved a Gold rating in Group 1, which is the highest level of competition and features college-level repertoire. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for the school. “This is a testament to the dedication and growth of our students,” said IPS Director of Bands Josh Goodman. “They rose to the challenge and performed at an incredibly high level.”
In addition to these achievements, Arsenal Tech became the first school in Indianapolis Public Schools history to receive the ISSMA All-Music Award. This award recognizes excellence across several categories: marching band, jazz, solo and ensemble performance, as well as full group performance.
