Allen County Sheriff’s Department investigates fatal crash on Old US 24

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department announced on May 8 that officers responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash in the 15000 block of Old US 24. The incident occurred at approximately 5:26 a.m. and involved a Toyota passenger car and a Chevy pickup truck.

According to the department, the crash happened west of N. Berthaud Road when the Toyota, traveling eastbound, crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck the westbound Chevy pickup head-on.

First responders found that each vehicle was occupied only by its driver. The driver of the Chevy pickup was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but later determined to have non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department said that an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
